IV69579: NETSTAT -RN FALSELY SHOWS ROUTING ENTRY FOR FIRSTALIAS ADDRESS

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When an alias IP is added to an interface with firstalias
keyword, routing entry is updated with the newly added
alias IP address if it is in the same subnet as the
existing
IP address of the interface. When the 2nd alias IP of the
same subnet is added, netstat -rn does not give the
updated
route entry with the new IP address as its gateway.

But, outgoing packets use the correct source IP address.

  • netstat -rn is showing wrong route entry after
adding the 2nd alias IP with firstalias keyword.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • Extra condition is added to check if newly added gateway is
different from the existing one. If it is different, then make
the newly added IP as the gateway.
