Error description

  • Setting "receive_q_elem" to a high value on the CT3
(RedRiver) adapter causes a hang in ifconfig. The hang is
caused because the memory requested by the adapter is
bigger than a heap segment (256MB).

The hang can occur during ifconfig at bootup (causing a
    boot
hang) or when running ifconfig is done at the command
    line
after changing the variable to a high value.

Local fix

  • The workaround for this problem is to leave
"receive_q_elem" at its default value of 4096.

Values higher than 19,0000 are expected to cause the
    hang.

Problem summary

  • Setting "receive_q_elem" to a high value bigger than a heap
segment (256MB)on the CT3 (RedRiver) adapter causes a hang
    in ifconfig.

Problem conclusion

  • Correct the netmalloc code such that ifconfig will not hang,
when memory requested by the adapter is bigger than a
    heap segment (256MB)
