Error description

  • DMS timeout might occur when amepat is running on the
    only available
    CPU on the system.

All the other CPUs are folded and amepat has monopolized
    the
only online CPU in the system

Stack trace will be something like

    pvthread+0F2200 STACK:
    [0005F480]begfst+000200 ()
    [0005F47C]begfst+0001FC ()

    [006F46A8]vmgetinfo+000048 (??, ??, ??)
    [00003888]mfspurr_sc_flih01+0000E4 ()
    [kdb_get_virtual_memory] no real storage @ 2FF224B8

Local fix

  • To circumvent this issue, make sure that there is always
    an extra
CPU available. This can be achieved by the following
    command

    schedo -p -o vpm_xvcpus=2

NOTE: this still might not protect from a situation where
    HATDS
or similar process is bound to this particular CPU where
    'amepat' command is running

Problem summary

  • A heartbeat or other realtime process will incorrectly signal
    a failure.

Problem conclusion

  • Insert a manual scheduler check during statistics processing.

Temporary fix
