APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The sysdumpdev -e may show invalid values, mostly very
high number which can lead to the 'DMPCHK_TOOSMALL'
    errpt entry.

Local fix

  • N/A

Problem summary

  • trying to force a system dump from command line will fail
if the y4 adapter is configured in the system.
The failure happens because the y4 reports an incredible
    large dump size.

Problem conclusion

  • The value of the size is passed from the device driver
by returning a pointer to the location of the value.
The caller is expecting the value to be stored in a 64 bit
value. The device driver was saving the value in a 32 bit
location, forcing the caller to interpret the value as a
    huge size number.
The solution is to store the value in a 64 bit variable.
