Error description

  • On AIX systems with WPARs, where the WPARs are setup for
automount, unmount of the autofs mount points or even the
    stopwpar command could hang.
The dump from the time of the problem shows an aump
    thread
    stuck in:

    (0)> f 583

And the dump will also show that there is no automountd
    daemon running on the WPAR.
Only a reboot of the global system will help recover from
this WPAR being in hung state.

Local fix

  • None. Global system needs to be rebooted to recover from
    the WPAR hang.

Problem summary

  • When WPARs are setup for automount, unmount of the autofs mount
points or even the stopwpar command could hang after automount
    daemon is stopped.

Problem conclusion

  • Handle automount exit as needed.
