Error description

  • chvg -g vgname may cause an error shown below:

    physical
volume data has been permanently damaged. Run
    diagnostics.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • For 4k block size VGs, chvg -g will fail, and cause future LVM
commands to fail with the error above about corrupt Bad-block
    directory.
    .
This is because chvg -g erroneously tries to set a bad block
sector during the grow disk operation, when 4k block size
VGs do not support bad block relocation

Problem conclusion

  • Correct chvg -g code to not try to update bad block directory
information for 4k block size VGs.
