Error description

  • When using geninstall to preview the installation of RPM
packages, the program may return a non-zero return
code without displaying any messages.  For example:
# geninstall -p -I -pacgYX -d <media> -f RPM.bnd


Validating RPM package selections ...

# echo $?

Local fix

  • Check the amount of required space for the RPM packages
to be installed by running the rpm command outside of
geninstall.  For example:
/usr/bin/rpm -Uhv --test rpm1.rpm rpm2.rpm ... rpm15.rpm
installing package perl-5.8.8-2 needs 62Mb on the
   /opt filesystem
installing package readline-6.2-5 needs 64Mb on the
   /opt filesystem
installing package wget-1.15-1 needs 66Mb on the
   /opt filesystem
installing package zlib-1.2.3-4 needs 67Mb on the
   /opt filesystem
# echo $?

Problem summary

  • When using geninstall to preview the installation of RPM
packages, the program may return a non-zero return
code without displaying any messages.  For example:
# geninstall -p -I -pacgYX -d <media> -f RPM.bnd

Problem conclusion

  • Allowed space requirement messages to be included in geninstall
preview operation and set return code to 0 if no other errors
exist.
