IV64983: SMITTY MKUSER FAILS FOR SECURITY GROUP USERS

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Starting in 6.1tl9 and 7.1tl3, users belonging to the
security group cannot run mkuser through smitty. This
error message is received:

3004-692 Error changing "admin" to "false" : You do not
have permission.

security group users can run mkuser from the command line
as long as they aren't trying to set the 'admin'
attribute.

Local fix

  • Create an RBAC role that contains the
aix.security.user.create.admin authorization for non-root
users needing to run smitty mkuser.

Problem summary

  • The customer will not be able to create a normal user even if
the user belongs to the security group.

Problem conclusion

  • changes have been made in the the smitty script so that
security group user ll be able to create a normal user when
admin=false.
