APAR status

Error description

  • After performing a NIM install to a client that utilizes
DSM (Distributed Systems Management), a perl process may
be left running which consumes CPU cycles.  The process
will look similar to this:
# ps -ef | grep dsm
    root <PID>        1 120 16:18:16      -  1:43
   /usr/bin/perl /opt/ibm/sysmgt/dsm/dsmbin/dci -f -c
   -I hmc -H <HMC_IP>
   -p <password_file>
   -o TargetName=1,TargetLPARID=1,
   TargetHWTypeModel=<MTM>,TargetHWSerialNum=<SN>

Local fix

  • Once the lpar_netboot process completes, the perl/dci
process may be killed:
# kill <PID>

Problem summary

  • After performing a NIM install to a client that utilizes
DSM (Distributed Systems Management), a perl process may
be left running which consumes CPU cycles.

Problem conclusion

  • Closing the console that kills perl process.
