APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If EXTSHM=ON or EXTSHM=MSEG is set, then the
    restore/restbyname command may fail with error message
    such as:
    
    restore: 0511-110 There is an unpacking error.
    restore: 0511-708 There is an internal unpacking error:
      decode failure
    restore: 0511-121 Out of space.
    
    Or:
    
    restore: 0511-147 Unpacking file size error.
    The original size of ./usr/lpp/bos/bos.rte.shell/
      6.1.8.15/liblpp.a is 352990; restored size is 6153.
    restore: 0511-708 There is an internal unpacking error:
      decode failure
    restore: 0511-107 Cannot read from pipe. There is an
      unpacking error.
    : A specified file does not support the ioctl system
      call.
    
    
    Two situations where this issue has been seen are when
    using 'mkwpar' to create a 5.2 Versioned WPAR on a 7.1
     system, and when doing an alt_disk_copy of a 6.1 system.
    

Local fix

  • unset EXTSHM before any command that may call restore,
    such as mkwpar and alt_disk_copy
    

Problem summary

  • When EXTSHM=ON or EXTSHM=MSEG is set, then the
    restore/restbyname command may fail with error message
    such as:
    restore: 0511-110 There is an unpacking error.
    restore: 0511-708 There is an internal unpacking error:
    

Problem conclusion

  • The restore/restbyname has been fixed to avoid the overflow
    of the variable which was leading to this problem.
