APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Running giad may result in a file named /dev/NULL
being created and data appeneded to it.
This will happen only if supplemental media tape
or CD are used to load diagnose routines.

Local fix

  • Get the major, minor device number for /dev/null:
# ls -la /dev/null
crw-rw-rw- 1 root system 2, 2 May 20 00:21 /dev/null
and create a device /dev/NULL
# rm /dev/NULL
# mknod /dev/NULL c 2 2
# chmod 666 /dev/NULL

Problem summary

  • diag may create and write to a file /dev/NULL

Problem conclusion

  • Modified the code to use correct file-name while redirecting.
