APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Even though the packet rate (or PKEY, MTU, q_key) is
specified by the Subnet Manager in IPoIB environment,
AIX is not using the specified value and this may block
other infiniband interfaces from joining the multicast
    groups in the same subnet.

Local fix

  • N/A

Problem summary

  • If a customer requires to change the packet rate value in the
Subnet Manager, the AIX interfaces will not use this value
and they will create a multicast groups with the maximum
rate available in the line. This will cause ofther members
in the network that follow this rule, to fail the join to the
    multicast group.

Problem conclusion

  • During the process to join the multicast group in the IPoIB
code, verify if the query of the multicast group had
the packet rate and other values set, if so, use this values
and set the mask to indicate the SM that we will be using
    those values.
