APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When no version is specified during the mount operation,
AIX NFS client starts with vers=3. If there NFS server
responds to the MOUNT NULL call, but does not reply to
    the
NFS NULL call, then this could cause the NFS TCP
    connection
to remain active (socket is not closed).

The following command will show a lot of connections on
reserved ports to the same NFS server. (the local IP and
    server IP remain the same)
    # netstat -an | grep 2049

Local fix

  • Specify vers=3 during the mount command.
If the MOUNTVERS3 works, but NFSPROC3_NULL doesn't then
we could still get in to the same condition, but it is
less likely for a server to not support vers=3, as
    compared
    to vers=2.

Problem summary

  • NFS TCP connection remain active and leading server unresponsi
ve over the period of time.

Problem conclusion

  • Memory leak of TCP client handle is fixed.
