IV58341: RUP COMMAND IN SHARED WPAR RESULTS IN "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY" ERROR APPLIES TO AIX 6100-07

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When rup command is issued from within a shared WPAR,
    this
    could hang or fail. The following error is seen in syslog
    debug output:
    
    Sep  7 01:37:18 <WPAR_name> daemon:err|error
    rpc.rstatd[19202082]: rpc.rstatd: not enough memory
    804401148
    Sep  7 01:37:18 <WPAR_name> daemon:warn|warning
    inetd[12386520]: Server /usr/sbin/rpc.rstatd has ended
    with exit status 0x100.
    

Local fix

  • Use rootvg WPARs such that there's disk resources
    assigned to
    the WPAR.
    OR
    Do not use WPARs.

Problem conclusion

  • In updatestat(), check value of numdisks before
    calling malloc
