Error description

  • For a vg with 2 mirror copies, use mirrorvg to create the
    3rd mirror copy and
ctrl+C to kill the mirrorvg process in the middle of
    running (
while still synching the pps); LVM incorrectly removes
    the existing 2nd mirror
copy under cleanup of mirrorvg's abnormal termination.

    Here is an example:
    1. create a regular vg that has a lv. The lv has 2
    mirror copies.
    mkvg -f -y testvg hdisk241 hdisk242 hdisk243
    mklv testvg 400 hdisk241
    mirrorvg -c 2 testvg hdisk242

    2. use mirrorvg to add the 3rd mirror copy and ctrl+C to
    kill mirrorvg process
    in the middle of running.
    # mirrorvg -c 3 testvg hdisk243
    ^Cgrep: 0652-033 Cannot open
    /tmp/.workdir.23461972.21233776_1/non_single21233776.

Now testvg loses its original 2nd copy and is left with
    single copy.
    # lsvg -l testvg
    testvg:
LV NAME TYPE LPs PPs PVs LV
    STATE MOUNT POINT
    lv00 jfs 400 400 1
    closed/syncd N/A

Local fix

Problem summary

  • When creating a 3rd mirror with mirrorvg -c3, if the process
is killed with ctl+c part way through, mirrorvg will cleanup
the partial 3rd mirror, but will also remove the 2nd mirror.

Problem conclusion

  • Change cleanup logic to not remove the 2nd mirror, but only
    the partial 3rd mirror.
