Error description

  • replacepv may fail with a 0516-1232 error when a disk is
    physically removed:
    0516-1232 replacepv:
NOTE: If this program is terminated before the
    completion due to
a system crash or ctrl-C, and you want to
    continue afterwards
            execute the following command
            replacepv -R /tmp/replacepv12976316
0516-015 lmigratelv: The migrate was done but the

0516-1227 replacepv: Warning, replacepv did not
    completely succeed.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Replacepv has some faulty logic to try and validate that it has
successfully mirrored an LV onto the new replacement disk.
So when you are replacing a bad disk that has stalepps (would
not be uncommon), replacepv will create a copy of each LV onto
the new disk, sync, and then verify.
When it verifies, it sees that the copy on the bad disk is
still stale, so it warns that the LV may not be fully migrated,
but still removes the copy of the bad disk, and then
fails out of replacepv without migrating any remaining LVs
    to the new disk.
    .
You'll see the warnings above, and see that one LV was
successfully moved to the new disk, but if you had any other
LVs on the bad disk, they would not be moved.

Problem conclusion

  • Correct the validation part of replacepv so that it will not
warn/fail if the LV is not fully syncd, so long as the new copy
on the new disk is sync'd.
    .
This will allow replacepv to continue migrating the rest of
the LVs to the replacement disk.
