Error description

  • The problem shows up in two ways.

    1) /usr/lib/ras/dumpcheck ends up creating an error
log entry when CD ROM device is configured as a dump
    device.

    IDENTIFIER TIMESTAMP T C RESOURCE_NAME DESCRIPTION
    6D87B1C0 1014075813 U O dumpcheck The dump device
    can not be accessed

    2)sysdumpdev -lv
    primary /dev/cd0
    primary size -1 blocks (512 bytes)<<incorrect o/p
    ..
    ..

The correct output should be as follows:
    primary /dev/cd0
primary size 8946816 blocks (512 bytes)

    ..
    ..

The fact that dumpcheck creates an errorlog entry is
due the fact that the size of the dump device shown
    is -1.

Local fix

  • The errlog entry created by dumpcheck can be ignored.
The dump creation works in spite of the fact that
    dumpcheck
    reports the error.
There is no workaround for the fact that sysdumpdev
    reports the size incorrectly.

Problem summary

  • The dump area size is not calculated for CDRAM device, when
CD ROM device is configured as a dump device.

Problem conclusion

  • Ensure that dump area size is calculated for CDRAM device, when
CD ROM device is configured as a dump device.
