IV56514: SYSTEM DUMP TO SECONDARY DUMP DEVICE CAN FAIL APPLIES TO AIX 7100-04

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • AIX may fail to complete a traditional style system dump
to the secondary dump device.  A setup similar to this
is required:

# sysdumpdev -l
primary              /dev/lg_dumplv1
secondary            /dev/lg_dumplv2
copy directory       /var/adm/ras
forced copy flag     TRUE
always allow dump    FALSE
dump compression     ON
type of dump         traditional

Local fix

  • Remove secondary dump device if possible and reasonable
to do so.

Problem summary

  • Traditional dump to secondary dump device
failed due to validation of dump device during
dump device configuration was not done properly.

Problem conclusion

  • Validation of dump device properly while configuring
the dump devices
