APAR status

Error description

  • When there are many routes using the same gateway and if
    Active DGD is enabled on all of them, this would cause
    that many ICMP packets to go out to the gateway (one per
    route with Active DGD flag).
    This can cause performance issues on the router.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Active DGD on multiple routes to same gateway through same
    interface causes performance issue on the router.
    
    When there are many routes using the same gateway and if
    Active DGD is enabled on all of them, this would cause
    that many ICMP packets to go out to the gateway (one per
    route with Active DGD flag).
    This can cause performance issues on the router.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Code is modified to not to send unnecessary ICMP ping requests
    to the gateway when mulitple routes are configured with
    same gateway and same interface.
