APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • While in use and actively reading / writing to luns, the
target controller is rebooted. After the controller
rejoins the san fabric, it's target function has not
completely initialized and when AIX initiates a login to
that target port, the target now reports it is not target
capable. The FC driver will never attempt a re-login even
if prompted by an RSCN or fabric event.

Local fix

  • rmdev -Rl fcs may force a re-check of the target

Problem summary

  • After a storage box reboot, IO to all luns under one or more
target ports may fail. In trace, it may be seen that IO fails
with EIO and details may show adapter error as "No Device
    Response".

Problem conclusion

  • The driver code modified so that initially if target port
does not exhibit "Target Function", then there will be RELOGIN
    attempts.
