APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A tcp request/response style communication exchange may
hang after a pure ACK packet is received and the
    application
is about to send a new packet.

An iptrace will show this type of pattern right before
    the
    exchange stops:
    request host1>host2
    response host2>host1
    ACK host1>host2
--- no further communications for this socket ---

Local fix

  • This is a rare condition exposed by efix for defect
    882715.

Problem summary

  • A tcp request/response style communication exchange may
hang when application is about to send a new packet and
a pure ACK packet is received. Very rare timing scenario
    exposes this problem.

Problem conclusion

  • TCP code is modified to send the remaining data when this
rare timing scenario occurs. Hence the tcp request/response
    style communication hang is avoided.
