APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Some services such as syslogd, snmpd and inets, that get
started by srcmstr at boot time may fail to start because
the same socket file gets created by mktemmp() calls made
    by startsrc.
It is possible that multiple processes may generate
the same temporary filename to use for their socket.
When this happens, the first process that opens the
socket proceeds normally, but the second one fails
because it is unable to open the socket.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The System Resource Controller fails to start some subsystems.
The root cause of this issue is socket create in startsrc make
temporary files which have the same name when multiple
startsrcs are executed. After the collision of the temporary
file name occurs, startsrc can't bind the socket and fails to
start services like syslogd, inetd and snmpd etc.

Problem conclusion

  • create unique temporary socket filename to avoid collision
of the temporary file names created from multiple startsrcs.
