Error description

  • When operating on a system where the IPv6 loopback
    address ::1 is a valid address for localhost, the
    clstrmgrES daemon may be unable to connect to the
    SNMP daemon.

    The following will repeat in clstrmgr.debug:

      ConnectToSnmp(): called, smuxFd is -1, retry count 0
      ConnectToSnmp: smux_init returned 17
      smuxFd is set in wrFds, try smux_simple_open
      smux_simple_open ok, try smux_register()

    In snmpdv3.log, the IPv6 loopback will be seen:

      Accepted new SMUX inet connection from ::1

    but snmpd will not be able to provide cluster status.

Local fix

  • Add this line of text to /etc/snmpdv3.conf:

    smux  1.3.6.1.4.1.2.3.1.2.1.5 clsmuxpd_password ::1 128

Problem summary

  • Customer is forced to re-start the PowerHA cluster
    which in turn will stop all the running services.

Problem conclusion

  • Code changes will allow peer to connect using IPv6 loopback
    address (::1) if no address or netmask is specified for
    an entry in the snmpd.conf or snmpdv3.conf file.

Temporary fix
