APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The syslogd setup (/etc/syslog.conf) done by ASO
misses the files parameter on the rotating logfiles
ASO does add. Without the files parameter, the
number of files is unlimited, causing /var to fill
up as we create a large number of log files.

Local fix

  • in /etc/syslog.conf add the files parameter to
the entries for ASO, which are
    aso.notice /var/log/aso/aso.log rotate size 128k time 7d
    aso.info /var/log/aso/aso_process.log rotate size 1024k
    aso.debug /var/log/aso/aso_debug.log rotate size 8m
    compress
    For example:
    aso.notice /var/log/aso/aso.log rotate size 128k files 8
    compress
==> gets us 8 files with 128k each
    refresh -s syslogd

Problem summary

  • ASO may fail to log to the /var/log/aso/aso_debug.log file even
if the debug_level tunable has been set with asoo.

Problem conclusion

  • The /var/log/aso/aso_debug.log must be created and an
up-to-date aso.debug section must be added to /etc/syslog.conf.
An extra script is needed to undo the changes when rejecting
    the update.
