APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When paging space is setup over NFS, issuing commands
    such
as lsps could cause network sockets to be exhausted. The
default is to use UDP sockets, so frequent calls to lsps
could result in a large number of UDP sockets to be in
    use.
A new UDP socket is created each time the attributes
    expire
and a new call needs to be made to the NFS server for the
    paging device attributes.

Local fix

  • Do not issue "lsps" command.
A reboot is necessary to release the leaked sockets.

Problem summary

  • CONFIGURING PAGING SPACE OVER NFS COULD EXHAUST UDP SOCKETS

Problem conclusion

  • New check in place to verify if it is an NFS_PAGING_DAEMON than
getattr calls will use the pre-allocated client handle pool
