IV51053: RAMDISK FILES IN /DEV NOT REMOVED ON REBOOT. APPLIES TO AIX 6100-08

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • ramdisk files in /dev not removed on reboot.
    Removing the files after the reboot using rmramdisk
    gives an error.
    Below example illustrates the same:
    
    # mkramdisk 40000
    /dev/rramdisk0
    #
    # mkdir /mydir
    
    # mkfs -V jfs /dev/ramdisk0
    
    # mount -V jfs -o nointegrity /dev/ramdisk0 /mydir
    
    # df /mydir
    
    /dev/ramdisk0      40000     38376    5%       17     1%
    /mydir
    
    With the fs mounted, rebooted ramdisk0 device remains
    
    # cd /dev
    
    # ls -l ram*
    
    brw-------    1 root     system       45,  0 Mar  4 10:45
    ramdisk0
    #
    Attempts to remove it fail:
    
    # rmramdisk ramdisk0
    
    sysconfig RAM_DISK_REM failed
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ramdisk files in /dev not removed on reboot. Removing the files
    after the reboot using rmramdisk gives an error.
    

Problem conclusion

  • modified rmramdisk code to delete /dev entries.
