Error description

  • In AIX 7.1.2, a native wpar can be made with mkwpar using
a mksysb file. An error occurs when the mksysb file is
    used
as a backup device in the command:

    1. mksysb -i /jworkfs/mksysb.71-02-02.small
Create a mksysb from the running system. No problem.

    2. mkwpar -l -t -B /jworkfs/mksysb.71-02-02.small -g
    datavg1 -n wpar1

    Says:
mkwpar: Extracting file system information from backup...
    mkwpar: 0960-355 Non-shared /usr and /opt file systems
    must be mounted read-write.

And mkwpar fails here. The problem is reproducible.

A straight mkwpar in the system works though, with same
datavg, so the problem is when using the mksysb image:

    # mkwpar -l -t -g datavg1 -n wpar1 --- This works.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Customer is not able to create wpar using mkwpar
command when "-l" and "-B" options are specified

Problem conclusion

  • Added suitable check in wpar code such that mkwpar command
should not fail before mksysb process actual File system
    information.
