IV46091: AIX NFSV4 CLIENT DOESN'T UPDATE LEASE TIME IF SERV LEASE CHANGES

Error description

  • After an initial mount of an NFSv4 filesystem on AIX, the
lease time of the NFSv4 server is saved off. If all the
filesystems from this NFSv4 server are unmounted (on the
client), and the lease time changed on the server, the
new lease time value is not used by the AIX client. It'll
continue to use the old value. This will result in the
lease renew operations to not happen within time, and
causes
the lease to expire. The NFSv4 server could fail
delegations
and locks if leases expire.

Local fix

  • Reboot AIX client after the lease time on the NFSv4
server
has been changed.

Problem summary

  • Code changes are in a risky code path (State Manager4 module),
SM4 ( State Manager4 ) architecture is very stable and making
any modification on how we update the lease time would have
impact on NFSv4's major functionality such as returning a
delegation, lease renewing, file locking.  Hence it is
advisible to dropp the changes in development releases only.
this issue as of now is hit only by IBM Corp ( Z/OS servers ).
Code approver is also of the same openion.
