APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Running fsck in maintenance mode causes messages
    such as this:

    # fsck /dev/hd3

    The current volume is: /dev/hd3
    Primary superblock is valid.
    Could not load program /sbin/helpers/jfs2/logredo64:
Cannot run a 64-bit program until the 64-bit
environment has been configured. See the system
    administrator.
    J2_LOGREDO:log redo processing for /dev/hd3
    Primary superblock is valid.
    *** Phase 1 - Initial inode scan
    *** Phase 2 - Process remaining directories
    *** Phase 3 - Process remaining files
*** Phase 4 - Check and repair inode allocation map
*** Phase 5 - Check and repair block allocation map
    File system is clean.

fsck succeeds but the messages cause unnecessary concern.

Local fix

  • Ignore the message. Although the 64-bit version of
the program fails the 32-bit version is executed
    successfully.

Problem summary

  • Running logredo in maintenance mode causes unnecessary error
    messages like
    "Could not load program /sbin/helpers/jfs2/logredo64:
Cannot run a 64-bit program until the 64-bit
    environment has been configured"
    thought the command runs correctly.

Problem conclusion

  • Made logredo to check for maintainence mode & exec the
appropriate binary in the first instance itself, without
    attempting to exec anything else.

Temporary fix
