APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The following message is displayed when creating a savevg
    backup of a volume group with no JFS or JFS2 filesystems,
    and the XPG_SUS_ENV environment variable is set to ON.
    ksh: 0.00  : bad number
    

Local fix

  • Set the XPG_SUS_ENV environment variable to OFF before
    execution of the savevg command.
    
    Example:
    # export XPG_SUS_ENV=OFF
    # savevg -i -f /backups/myvg.savevg myvg
    

Problem summary

  • running savevg to create a backup of a volume group with no
    filesystems will lead to error "0.00 : bad number"
    

Problem conclusion

  • add a check to see if there are any filesystems if there are
    continue to process if no filesystems set the variable to zero
