IV30032: SVMON ?P OPTIONS TAKES A LOT TIME TO RETURN OR HANGS APPLIES TO AIX 7100-02

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• svmon -P takes a long time to complete ,
  if there are more segment mapping is missing
  for the files.

  * USERS AFFECTED:
  * Systems running the 7100-02 Technology Level with
  * bos.perf.perfstat below the 7.1.2.1 level and
  * bos.perf.tools below the 7.1.2.15 level.
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  * Commands involving processes (such as ps, sar, topas) can
  * hang while svmon -P (or any svmon option that collect process
  * details such as -U option) is running.  svmon commands
  * collecting process details can take a long time to complete
  * if there are are open files whose file pointers have a
  * missing mapping segment, in which case, svmon performs a
  * linear search of the segment table.

  * RECOMMENDATION:
  * Install APAR IV30032.

Problem conclusion

• Svmon will ignore files without segment mapping information
  This is the modified default behavior of svmon.To view
  these additional file use option:svmon -P -Ofile_mem_scan=on
