Problem summary

  • Command timeouts and request sense failures to disk in AIX
error log. This may result in I/O hang to that disk.

Problem conclusion

  • Allow request sense command to be issued even when outstanding
I/O exists to disk. This only resolves a possible hang. It
does not fix the command timeouts or missing sense data from
storage subsystem. If storage subsystem behaves this way,
it may result in I/O failures on AIX.
