Error description

  • A NPIV client may fail to recover a path, if the physical
path remains in a failed state for an extended period of
time. If the path is offline long enough for the client
to exhaust its maximum number of retries, the client will
not recover the path, even after communications is
    restored.

A path might be in a failed state for an extended time
due to the switch or the end storage device being
offline. This can happen if the FC switch is rebooted,
or if a storage subsystem node is rebooted during a
    concurrent code download procedure.

Local fix

  • Remove the virtual adapter instance on the client, and
    re-discover, using rmdev/cfgmgr.

Problem summary

  • DAfialed path does not recover

Problem conclusion

  • occasionally retry failed paths that have been open in the past
