IV01536: CIFS MOUNTS TAKES MORE THAN 5 SECONDS TO COMPLETE APPLIES TO AIX 6100-05

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • cifs mount takes more than 5 seconds to complete.
when used under automount this lead to errors from
automount like :
daemon:err|error automountd[417864]: Duplicate request
This is because automount default mount timeout is 2
seconds, so as automountd didn't get response in time it
will queue a second mount request.

Local fix

  • when using manual mount no fix is needed.
when using automount, even though we get the error in
syslog, the mount will still work.
If customer wants to avoid syslog entry they might change
automountd mount timeout value.

Problem summary

  • Muonting a cifs filesystem takes more than 5 seconds to
complete.

Problem conclusion

  • Added checks to see to it that once all the necessary
exchanges are done, no more send/recv is attempted.
