However, seek IBM advice by PMR before changing the setting of any of these parameters to values that differ from their defaults: . (1) OPTIOWGT: Use of OPTIOWGT=ENABLE is the default in V9 and V10. OPTIOWGT=ENABLE causes DB2 to choose SQL access paths that accurately reflect ongoing improvements in System z processor speeds. Use of OPTIOWGT=DISABLE causes DB2 to use a traditional cost balance formula that can lead to sub-optimal performance of queries because it does not account for these improvements. (2) OPTIXIO: Use of OPTIXIO=ON is the default in V8, V9, and V10. OPTIXIO=ON specifies that DB2 is to provide stability to I/O costing for queries, with less sensitivity to bufferpool sizes. Use of OPTIXIO=OFF can cause access path selection to be heavily influenced by object size and bufferpool sizes. (3) OPTXQB: Use of OPTXQB=ON is the default in V9 and V10. OPTXQB=ON enables global query block optimization for SQL with subqueries. Use of OPTXQB=OFF can inhibit optimization of such queries. (4) STATCLUS: Use of STATCLUS=ENHANCED is the default in V9 and V10. STATCLUS=ENHANCED causes RUNSTATS to collect clustering statistics using an algorithm that more accurately aligns with dynamic prefetch which is relied upon for data access via an index in V9 and V10. Use of STATCLUS=STANDARD causes RUNSTATS to collect clustering statistics as it did in DB2 V8, which can cause the DB2 optimizer to incorrectly estimate when dynamic prefetch may be invoked in V9 and V10. . REAL STORAGE CONSIDERATION Ensure that you have defined a high enough value for HVSHARE & HVCOMMON to satisfy all requests on this LPAR. DB2 Version 10 requires 128GB of contiguous 64-bit shared private storage above the 2GB bar for each DB2 subsystem. DB2 requires 6GB of contig- uous 64-bit above 2GB bar common storage for each DB2 subsystem.
