IC88870: TRYING TO CLEAN UP A FAILED COMMON AGENT INSTALL, INSTALLP -C HANGS, IS UNABLE TO CLEAN UP FAILED INSTALL

APAR status

  • Closed as documentation error.

Error description

  • Users need to run the command "installp -C" to do the cleanup as
they encounter the installation failure of IBM Systems Director
Common Agent(CAS). But sometimes "installp -C" will hang.

    Impact:
Cleanup of the previous installation failure is not successful
and users are not able to reinstall CAS.

Local fix

  • As this issue occurs, users can open another session, then run
    the command "/var/opt/tivoli/ep/bin/lwistart.sh". It will
resolve this issue. When the hang issue is resolved, users can
stop this command and close that session.

Problem summary

  • If users encounter a situation where the installation of their
CAS agent fails, they can utilize the "installp -C" command to
clean up the failed CAS installation before the reinstallation.
But with a rare possibility, "installp -C" will hang. This APAR
aims to update the Systems Director Information Center to state
the solution to resolve the hang of "installp -C".
In Systems Director Information Center, theres is already one
troubleshooting page stating how to resolve the failures of
installation and uninstallation - "IBM Systems Director
installation or uninstallation fails and requires cleanup". In
that page, it guides the users to run the "installp -C" to clean
    up any interrupted installation processes.
This APAR will append a note to the "installp -C" and state a
solution as to what to do if "installp -C" hangs.
