  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When a generic ASSGN statement is processed
    (like: ASSGN SYSxxx,DISK,VOL=cccccc,SHR)
    and one of the DISK devices is in NOT-OPERATIONAL state,
    it may happen occasionally that the VSE Supervisor SENESE task
    runs into a program check. This results in a Hardwait FEC.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Hardwait FEC may occur with a generic *
    * ASSGN statement (like // ASSGN SYSxxx, *
    *                      DISK,VOL=ccccc,SHR) on VSE systems      *
    * with NOTOP disk devices attached. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Install PTF.                                 *
    ****************************************************************
    With a generic ASSGN statement, the VSE System searches for the
    VOL specified in the ASSGN statement. This may trigger many
    disk I/O requests from the VSE supervisor's SRV task.
    NOTOP disk devices may cause additional I/O requests from the
    SNS task. In some situations SNS task I/O processing in IJBPVPR
    badly interferes with SRV task I/O requests and causes a
    program check in supervisor part IOINTER at label INTERTRN.
    This leads to the Hardwait FEC.

Problem conclusion

  • IJBPVPR will now ensure that it calls INTERTRN only when an
    I/O request for the device being processed is still ongoing.
