DY47548: LBSERV IQUERY FAILS WITH RC=0008 REASON=0076 FOR LARGE INVENTORYE.G. MORE THAN 466000 VOLUMES

Error description

• When issueing LBSERV IQUERY macro call for very large tape
  library inventory, macro call fails with RC=0008 REASON=0076
  if more than 466000 volumes are available.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A calculated buffer size exceeds 16 MB  *
  *                      causing the LBSERV request to be        *
  *                      terminated with RC8 RSN76.              *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF if you use a tape library      *
  *                 with the native VSE Tape Library Support     *
  *                 (SYS ATL=TLS) and you are approaching        *
  *                 46000 volumes in the library.                *
  ****************************************************************
  $IJBAOM allocates a temporary buffer from the system GETVIS
  area to hold inventory data for each volume in the library.
  The maximum size of this buffer is constrained to 16 MB. If
  the number of volumes in the library exceeds about 466000
  volumes, the calculated buffer size exceeds 16 MB and the
  LBSERV request will be terminated with RC=0008 REASON=0076.
  

Problem conclusion

• The PTF removes the constraint of the maximum buffer size, so
  that it is only constrained by the largest free available block
  in the system GETVIS area (see AR command GETVIS SVA).
