Abstract

On November 11, 2018, certificates that IBM used to sign Java applets provided with IBM Tivoli Business Service Manager 6.1.0 expires.

When opening a IBM Tivoli Business Service Manager 6.1.0 application with an associated Java applet , if the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) displays a certificate acceptance dialog, there will be an additional message on that dialog indicating that the certificate is still valid but has expired. Accept the warning and continue work in the application. It is only a warning. The JRE will not prevent the applet from executing.

This Interim Fixes include applet jars signed with a newly issued certificate.

Prerequisites

IBM Tivoli Business Service Manager 6.1.0.4 must be install before applying this Interim Fix.
This Interim Fix must be installed on dashboard and data servers.

In case of a TIP HA environment, the HA node(s) need to be disjoined first before upgrading

Installation Instructions

Installing this Interim Fix:

          [Interim Fix] Refers to the directory where this Interim Fix  resides (after you have extracted it from the zip file).  
    
          On the Tivoli Business Service Manager server system:
                Navigate to the [Interim Fix] directory where the files were extracted.
    
        Install the Interim Fix with the same user that was used to  install TBSM 6.1.0 FP4 release.

         All TBSM Dashboard Servers
          ===================================================
           1.) Stop the TBSM Dashboard Server       
           2.) Open a command prompt and change to the unzip directory  
           3.) Set the TBSM_HOME environment variable to locate the TBSM 6.1.0 FP4 installation
           4.) To install Interim Fix 8.
                 NOTE: There is no GUI mode for this Interim Fix. 
                 NOTE: To backup the FP4 existing file prior to install
                 rename the following jar file, to {file}.FP4:          
                 [TBSM_DASHBOARD_SERVER_HOME]/WEB-INF/lib/ncChartComponent.jar
                        For example, rename ncChartComponent.jar to ncChartComponent.jar.FP4 and move the backup file to a backup directory.

           For windows, to install the new jar file:
           copy ncChartComponent.jar [TBSM_DASHBOARD_SERVER_HOME]/WEB- INF/lib/ncChartComponent.jar
    
               For unix, to install the new jar file:
           cp ncChartComponent.jar [TBSM_DASHBOARD_SERVER_HOME]/WEB-INF/lib/ncChartComponent.jar
    
           5.) Start the TBSM Dashboard Server
        
       * Verify the installation
    
       1)  cd "[TBSM_HOME]\bin"  and run versioninfo.bat|.sh
    
        Confirm that the jar file information reported under
        the "TBSM JAR Version Information" section shows the affected jar file as follows:  
    
           The TIPProfile sub-directories should show the following Build and Version information:
    
           ncChartComponent.jar
             Version:    6.1.0.4 IF0008
         Component:  Dashboard Server

         All TBSM Data Servers
          ===================================================
           1.) Stop the TBSM Data Server       
           2.) Open a command prompt and change to the unzip directory  
           3.) Set the TBSM_HOME environment variable to locate the TBSM 6.1.0 installation
           4.) To install Interim Fix 8, 
                NOTE: There is no GUI mode for this Interim Fix. 
                NOTE: To backup the FP4 existing file prior to install

           5.) Start the TBSM Data Server
    
       
       * Verify the installation
    
       1)  cd "[TBSM_HOME]\bin"  and run versioninfo.bat|.sh
    
        Confirm that the jar file information reported under
        the "TBSM JAR Version Information" section shows the affected jar file as follows:  
    
           The TBSMProfile sub-directories should show the following Build and Version information:
    
           ncChartComponent.jar
             Version:  6.1.0.4 IF0008


      *Uninstalling this Interim Fix
    
       Please note: This Interim Fix must be uninstalled on each server(s)
       that is running the TBSM dashboard server and data server. 
    
       On the Tivoli Business Service Manager server system:
    
            Uninstall the Interim Fix with the same user that was used to install TBSM 6.1.0.4 IF8.
    
        Dashboard Server
        ================
        1.) Stop the Dashboard Server
    
        2.) Navigate to the backup directory where the file were manually backed up by the install user
        
        3.) Issue the following command:
            For windows:
        copy ncChartComponent.jar.FP4 [TBSM_DASHBOARD_SERVER_HOME]/WEB-INF/lib/ncChartComponent.jar
          
        For unix:
        cp ncChartComponent.jar.FP4 [TBSM_DASHBOARD_SERVER_HOME]/WEB-INF/lib/ncChartComponent.jar
        
        4.) Start the Dashboard Server
    
  * Verify uninstallation
    
       1) cd "[TBSM_HOME]\bin" and run versioninfo.bat|.sh
      Confirm that the version reported under "TBSM JAR Version Information"  no longer has IF0008 on it.
    
        Data Server
        ================
        1.) Stop the Data Server
    
        2.) Navigate to the backup directory where the file were manually backed up by the install user
        
        3.) Issue the following command:
            For windows:
            copy ncChartComponent.jar.FP4 [TBSM_DATA_SERVER_HOME]/WEB-INF/lib/ncChartComponent.jar
        
        For unix:
        cp ncChartComponent.jar.FP4 [TBSM_DATA_SERVER_HOME]/WEB-INF/lib/ncChartComponent.jar
          
        4.) Start the Data Server
    
       * Verify uninstallation
    
       1) cd "[TBSM_HOME]\bin" and run versioninfo.bat|.sh
        
          Ensure that the version reported under "TBSM JAR Version Information" 
          no longer has IF0008 on it.
    
    ====================================================================
    Additional Information
    
    The JRE cache, on the client workstations should be cleared, to prevent
    the execution of any old code (stored on the client).

Certificate expiration does not compromise security in any way. The certificates are still valid and the applet will still run normally.
