Rational 7.0.x product installation hangs on Windows XP

| | | Problem(Abstract) | | This technote explains how to resolve an issue that renders the installation of an IBM® Rational® product such as ClearQuest®, ClearCase®, RequisitePro®, or ProjectConsole® unresponsive on Microsoft® Windows® platforms. | | | | | | Cause | GSKit is installed by Rational products that utilize the Rational Web Platform (RWP). ClearQuest and other individual programs install GSKit version 7.0.3.3 and RWP installs GSKit 7.0.3.9. The Windows uninstall mechanism for RWP does not remove GSKit from the machine. So, if a user attempts an install of ClearQuest or another Rational product such as RequisitePro where RWP was previously installed, the GSKit install 7.0.3.3 would attempt to install over the GSKit installed by RWP (7.0.3.9).
There are some known causes for this issue: - User performing the install is logged on as a Power User, and not as an administrator.
Workaround: Log onto the client system as Administrator.
- AcSvc.exe, which is a driver for Wireless connectivity, can cause conflicts with the GSKit installer.
Workaround: Disabling the wireless connection and stopping the AcSvc.exe process can correct the problem, allowing the installation to complete.
- This issue has also been resolved by stopping third party applications such as Trackit and the Spirent Protocol Tester Service from Spirent.
- This issue has also been known to occur if Lotus SameTime is running on the install host. Try stopping Lotus SameTime client.
- There is StarOffice software on the workstation or server where you are installing the production. This has been observed as a block for GSKit installation by Rational products. Removing or disabling this software might resolve this issue.
- If stopping the fore-mentioned services does not allow for a successful installation, try stopping all nonessential services. This has been reported to install allow ClearQuest to install completely.
