Atria Location Broker service inadvertently removed during roll back following failed upgrade of ClearCase to 7.1.0.1 on Windows

Abstract
This flash is meant to inform you of an issue that can occur when upgrading to IBM Rational ClearCase (CC) 7.1.0.1 where the Atria Location Broker (ALBD) service is inadvertently removed following a failed upgrade on Windows.

Conditions:

This is a Windows-only issue which occurs when ClearCase Doctor (CC Doctor) is running during the upgrade.

Solution:

The solution involves reinstalling ClearCase (full details can be found in the technote referenced below).

If you have not yet upgraded, ensure that ClearCase Doctor is not running when you perform the upgrade. You can disable CC Doctor from running in the Windows System Configuration Utility (Msconfig.exe).

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type msconfig
  4. On the Startup Tab Uncheck ccdoctor
  5. Click OK.

Defect:

A defect APAR PK84481 has been opened to investigate this issue and there is currently no workaround.

ClearQuest MultiSite Impact:

This issue may impact ClearQuest MultiSite if it is also installed where the solution involves reinstalling ClearQuest MultiSite.
