About Rational ClearQuest over a wide area network or virtual private network

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Can you use IBM Rational ClearQuest non-Web clients such as Rational ClearQuest client and Rational ClearQuest for Windows client over a wide area network (WAN) or virtual private network (VPN)?

Answer

Using the Rational ClearQuest desktop clients such as Rational ClearQuest client and Rational ClearQuest for Windows client to work with Rational ClearQuest Database over a WAN environment or a VPN is not supported. The performance in this environment is likely to be unsatisfactory, and could also cause database corruption if there is a connection problem.

Rational ClearQuest Web and Rational ClearQuest MultiSite are specifically designed for WAN implementations and can be considered as viable alternatives. Rational ClearQuest MultiSite allows Rational ClearQuest clients to work with local replicas of their ClearQuest databases rather than accessing servers in remote locations.
