Technote (troubleshooting)
Problem(Abstract)
When you use LMTOOLS to save a change in the Services, the error message might occur. However, the path to the license files is correct.
Symptom
The following message appears.
"The license file / license Path does not exist where specified"
and the "Path the license file" field sets back the previous value.
Cause
Version 7.0.1 and older stores the rational*.dat files by default in the following folder.
C:\Program Files\Rational\Common
Version 7.1 and newer uses .
C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\common\
The following paths contain the files perm and temp. The Windows registry points to these paths.
C:\Program Files\Rational\common\rational_server_perm.dat;C:\Program files\Rational\common\rational_server_temp.dat
Note: The default path to the license files might vary depending on the license server versions.
The license manager rejects any new information. This happens when you changed the path and try enter the path manually.
This is due to the fact that the browser button will only allow you to point at one file at the time, as Windows browser does not allow to select the paths for two files simultaneously.
Resolving the problem
Correct the path in the following Windows registry key
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Flexlm License Manager\Flexlm License manager
Copy the paths to the files using ";" as separator.
The following example applies to version 7.1.
C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\common\rational_server_perm.dat;C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\common\rational_server_temp.dat
You will then see that both the files are used again as below
This solution contains information about modifying the system registry. Before making any modifications to the Microsoft® Registry Editor, it is strongly recommended that you make a backup of the existing registry.
