Abstract

Use the IBM Rational MSI Uninstall tool, rationaluninstalltool.exe remove previous versions of IBM Rational Team Products.

Download Description

The Rational MSI Uninstall tool removes versions of the following Rational Team Products with version numbers between 2003.06.00 and 7.0.1.x.

  • Rational ClearCase
  • Rational ClearCase Clients for Visual Studio.NET
  • Rational ClearCase Remote Client for Visual Studio .NET
  • Rational ClearQuest
  • Rational License Server
  • Rational ProjectConsole
  • Rational RequisitePro
  • Rational Robot*
  • Rational SoDA
  • Rational TestManager *

Note: This tool is only for uninstalling the products listed above. It will not uninstall any Rational Suites, such as the Rational Suite Enterprise or TUP.

*Rational Robot and Rational TestManager
Before using the uninstall tool, review technote 1326951 which provides information about backing up your TestDataStores before uninstalling.

At the command prompt, run the command rationaluninstalltool.exe with the following options:

  • <log file name> Specify the name and location of the log file where you want the logging information stored.
  • [ –c] Perform a complete clean of the system. The clean uninstall option completely removes the Rational install directory as well the Rational Software registry keys under both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
  • [ –nr] Suppresses the automatic reboot that happens for Rational ClearCase, Rational ClearQuest, Rational RequisitePro, and Rational ProjectConsole. This option is available in version 1.0.0.5 or later of the Uninstall Tool.
NOTE: You will need to reboot the machine manually in order to completely uninstall these Rational products.
  • [ pd] <path to location for preserved data> Specify the target directory for saving preserved data. The data is copied into a sub-directory called Rational.Preserve. If the user does not specify a path, the data is copied to a directory on the root drive of the machine, called RationalSDLC_Temp. This option is available in version 2.0.0.0 or later of the Uninstall Tool.

The following example demonstrates how to run the tool with the option to completely clean the Rational installation directory and Rational Software and Atria registry keys:

c:\temp2\rationaluninstalltool.exe c:\temp2\uninstall.log -c

Note: If a reboot is necessary, the tool must be available after the reboot, and the same user must log in again to complete the process.

The unistall tool currently always returns 0, but does indicate whether the MSI portion of the uninstall failed. The error log from the MSI uninstall is listed in the Rational MSI Uninstall tool log.

Generally, the tool takes between 1 and 2 hours to uninstall Rational ClearCase or Rational ClearQuest, depending on the features installed. Uninstalling the other Team products generally requires between 45 minutes and an hour.

In Rational Uninstall Tool version 1.0.0.3 and later, the method for preserving registry keys and values has changed. The default behavior is to export this data to .reg files and save the files in the RationalSDLC_Temp\Rational.Preserve directory on the root drive of the machine (generally, C:\). If you have specified an alternate directory for preservation using the -pd flag, the .reg files is exported to that directory, under the Rational.Preserve subdirectory. Be aware that some of these registry keys contain references to the install directory and could break product functionality if imported into a 7.1.0.x installation of the product.

As of version 2.0.0.0 of the Rational Uninstall Tool, data files are copied from the installation directory to another directory. The default location is RationalSDLC_Temp\Rational.Preserve on the root drive of the machine (generally, "C:\"). You can also specify a location with the -pd flag, The files are copied with the same directory structure they had been under in the installation location. For example, files in C:\Program Files\Rational\ClearCase\var are copied to C:\RationalSDLC_Temp\Rational.Preserve\ClearCase\var .

Please note that the GSKit folder may remain behind, as well as a related IBM registry key.
