NFS v4 Redbook Now Available

IBM has recently published a draft, on-line version of the Redbook (aka a Redpiece) entitled "Implementing NFS v4 in the Enterprise: Planning and Migration Strategies". We believe that this Redbook may be of interest to you. It includes the following topics:
  • Overview of Enterprise File Systems
  • Implementing an Enterprise File System
  • Implementation of the NFSv4 Protocol in AIX 5L v5.3
  • Differences between NFSv3 and NFSv4
  • Planning and Implementation Examples for AFS/DFS Migrations
  • Using NFSv4 with JFS2 or GPFS

The "Implementing NFSv4 in the Enterprise" Redpiece may be downloaded at: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpieces/abstracts/sg246657.html. There is also a DCE Redbook available which may be useful to those DFS customers who are evaluating DCE replacement technologies. As a reminder, IBM has withdrawn all versions of IBM AFS and IBM DFS from marketing, effective 7/15/05. Support services for IBM AFS and IBM DFS will be provided through Passport Advantage until 4/30/06. After this date, IBM plans to offer those customers who are still using IBM AFS and IBM DFS the opportunity to purchase extended support contracts for a fee.
