Abstract
This document describes how to download and install IBM® Rational® Functional Tester Version 8.1.

Rational Functional Tester is an object-oriented automated testing tool that tests Windows®, .NET, Java™, HTML, Siebel, SAP, AJAX, PowerBuilder, Flex, zSeries®, iSeries®, and pSeries® applications. It enables you to record reliable and robust scripts that can be played back to validate new builds of a test application. Rational Functional Tester runs on Microsoft® Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista™, and Linux® operating systems.
Rational Functional Tester is available in two integrated development environments and two scripting languages. Rational Functional Tester, Java Scripting uses the Java language and the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform. Rational Functional Tester, VB.NET Scripting uses the VB.NET language and the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET development environment.
This release of IBM Rational Functional Tester Version 8.1 includes the following new features:
- Simplified scripting and application visuals: You can now record functional test scripts that are generated and displayed as English statements in the simplified script editor. While recording simplified test scripts, Rational Functional Tester captures snapshots of the application controls and displays the application visuals in the Application View.
- Rational Functional Tester proxy SDK supports wizard-driven development of proxies.
- Support for testing Adobe PDF Version 7.0 and 8.0 documents .
- Rational Functional Tester supports testing HTML applications in Internet Explorer 8.0 and multitab support.
- Support for testing HTML applications that are loaded in Mozilla Firefox 3.0 browser.
- Support for testing applications that are developed using Dojo 1.1 controls.
- Rational Functional Tester supports integration with Rational Team Concert™ Version 2.0. Install Rational Functional Tester and the Rational Team Concert client on the same package group and use the Jazz™ source control management for managing functional test assets.
- Support for testing applications that are developed using SAP Web DynPro framework.
- Support for 64-bit mode operating system. You can test Windows and .NET 64-bit applications and all the supported 32-bit applications in the 64-bit mode Windows operating system.
- Rational Functional Tester supports testing .NET applications and Win32 applications that are created with Sybase PowerBuilder 11.5.
- Perform data-driven functional tests for testing the terminal-based applications and create row verification points.
Prerequisites
- Before you update Rational Functional Tester, close the Eclipse and Microsoft® Visual Studio IDEs, as well as any open Web browsers, and all other applications that are enabled by Rational Functional Tester.
- This release requires IBM Installation Manager, version 1.3.1.
- If you are installing or upgrading Rational Functional Tester on Microsoft Windows®, to use the .NET Scripting feature, you must copy msvcp71.dll into the System32 directory (C:\Windows\System32), if it is not already available. You can copy the msvcp71.dll file from any other Windows operating system such as Windows XP or download it from Internet.
Installation Instructions
<p><b>Installing Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.1</b></p>
<ul> <li>If IBM Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.0, 8.0.0.1, 8.0.0.2 or 8.0.0.3 is already installed on your computer, you can install this update using the Update Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. </i></li>
</ul>
<p><b>Local upgrade of an existing installation </b> </p>
<ol> <li> Download the Rational Functional Tester 8.1 fix pack from the location specified at the bottom of this page.</li>
<li> Extract the files to a temporary directory. For example, extract the file to <code> C:\temp </code></li>
<li> In the IBM Installation Manager click <b> File > Preferences</b> and add the temporary directory to the list of repositories, for example, <code> C:\temp\rft810.update.disk1\disk1\</code>.</li>
<li>Use the Update Packages wizard of the Installation Manager to proceed with the update.</li></ol>

If you are installing IBM Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.1 for the first time, download the package from the IBM Passport Advantage .</br>

<b>Rational Functional Tester integration with Rational products</b><br></br>
You can integrate Rational Functional Tester Version 8.1 with ClearQuest® Version 7.1 and ClearCase® Version 7.0.1 and 7.1.<br></br><br></br>
<b>ClearQuest Test Manager perspective in Rational Functional Tester</b><br></br>
To add the ClearQuest® Test Manager perspective to Rational Functional Tester, install ClearQuest Version 7.1 plug-ins into Rational Functional Tester using IBM Installation Manager. <br></br><br></br>
<b>Installing ClearQuest plug-ins directly from IBM update repository:</b><br></br>
If IBM Rational Functional Tester is already installed on your computer, click Check for Other Versions and Extensions on the Install page of the Install Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. Select IBM Rational ClearQuest Version 7.1.0 from the list of the offerings and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the installation. <br></br>
You can also install ClearQuest 7.1 while installing Rational Functional Tester. In IBM Installation Manager, select IBM Rational Functional Tester in the Install page of the Install Packages wizard, and click Check for Other Versions and Extensions. Select IBM Rational ClearQuest 7.1.0 from the displayed list of offerings and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the installation.<br></br><br></br>
