End of Support for EWLM in CICS TS for z/OS V3.2 and CICS TG for z/OS V7.1
|
| | | Abstract | | This document announces the discontinuance of support in CICS® Transaction Server (CICS TS) for z/OS® V3.2 and CICS Transaction Gateway (CICS TG) for z/OS V7.1 for Enterprise Workload Manager (EWLM). | | | | | | Content | Background Discontinuance of support Impact
IBM® Virtualization Engine Enterprise Workload Manager for z/OS was the IBM implementation of the Application Response Measurement (ARM) standard from The Open Group. EWLM extended the capabilities of z/OS Workload Management (zWLM) services to all members of the IBM eServer family, and made possible end-to-end workload monitoring in heterogeneous environments containing multiple interacting servers.
CICS TS for z/OS V3.2 and CICS TG for z/OS V7.1 provided support for EWLM in a manner transparent to CICS applications. No change to applications was required to enable them to be monitored with EWLM. CICS support for EWLM meant that CICS provided facilities for internal management of ARM correlators, requesting them from EWLM, accepting them from the various transports, forwarding them on, and passing them back to EWLM.
Since the release of CICS TS for z/OS V3.2 and CICS TG for z/OS V7.1, EWLM V2.1 has been withdrawn from marketing, effective 10 March 2008. See IBM United States Withdrawal Announcement 907-245, 4 December 2007. No follow-on product has been announced to replace EWLM V2.1. Therefore, support for EWLM will be discontinued by both CICS TS for z/OS V3.2 and CICS TG for z/OS V7.1.
If you use EWLM V2.1, IBM is providing a transition to an IBM Systems and Technology Group (STG) Lab Services based offering. This new offering is designed to provide enhanced capabilities over the EWLM V2.1 product. You can contact Darrell Hawkins (darrell.hawkins@us.ibm.com) for more information on this offering, pricing, terms and conditions. In addition to this offering, IBM Tivoli® offers workload automation and monitoring solutions with the Tivoli Workload Automation Family of products, including Tivoli Dynamic Workload Broker and Tivoli Workload Scheduler, Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS, and Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Response Time Tracking.
There is expected to be no impact on the function of CICS TS for z/OS V3.2 and CICS TG for z/OS V7.1 and other products that use EWLM in the CICS portfolio of products. There is a minimal impact on CICS publications that include references to EWLM. Affected CICS publications will have EWLM references removed.
