What is the purpose of the "Shared or Public Computer" option on the Domino Web Access login form?

 Technote (FAQ)

Question
In Lotus® Domino® Web Access (iNotes™ Web Access) 8.0.1, there is a new option on the login form: "Shared or public computer". What is the purpose of this field?

Answer
When logging on to an 8.0.1 or higher Domino Web Access (DWA) server that has the DWA Redirect and DWALoginForm in use, there is a new option on the login form for "Shared or public computer":

If you select this setting, you will not be able to read attachments during that DWA session. This setting can be used for security reasons by DWA users accessing their e-mail at kiosks so that no information about attachments is cached locally.

The same functionality can be achieved by using either:
  • the &ra=0 URL argument
    Example: http://.com/mail/.nsf?OpenDatabase&ra=0

or
  • the following Notes.ini parameter on the Domino server: inotes_wa_readattachments=0

Note: If users need to access attachments from a kiosk, they can clear out any files associated with DWA from the browser cache by using the "Logout for Shared PCs or Kiosk Users" option when logging out of DWA.
