Router transfers separate messages to external recipients listed in BCC field

Technote (FAQ)

You send a message to multiple recipients using the BCC field for addressing. When transferring this message over SMTP, the Domino Router will send multiple messages, one to each individual recipient. However, since the messages are going to a relay host, you want Router to transfer only one message. How can this be accomplished?

A new notes.ini parameter RouterKeepRelayedBCCsIntact has been introduced in Domino release 6.5.6 and 7.0. When this parameter is enabled in the server's notes.ini, Router will not split the BCC recipient list; instead, Router will transfer one message to the relay host.
Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.6 MR fix list (available at

SPR# OBN4HVAPW - This fix uses a new notes.ini variable "RouterKeepRelayedBCCsIntact=1" which will only send a single message for BCC recipients when routing via SMTP through Relay Host. Default behavior is for the router to create an individual message for each BCC recipient.

Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.

Note: This parameter was designed specifically to work for SMTP relay hosts as specified in the server's Configuration document (Router/SMTP -> Basics tab). Enabling this parameter does not affect relay hosts configured via Foreign SMTP Domain documents or SMTP Connection documents (reported as SPR # MYAA6N646C). But you can specify SMTP relay hosts on the server's Configuration document even if you have Foreign SMTP Domain documents and SMTP Connection documents, so please specify SMTP relay hosts on not SMTP Connection document but Configuration document.
