How Can the Nagle Algorithm Be Disabled?

Technote (FAQ)

The Nagle algorithm is enabled by default on a Domino server and on a Notes client. Can this algorithm be disabled?

The Notes.ini parameter debug_pd_nagle_off=1 will turn off the Nagle algorithm and can be used on either the client or the server.

A network package can have an overhead that is as big as the data itself. By combining similar packages into one large package, the ratio between overhead and data is a lot better. Named after the engineer John Nagle, the Nagle algorithm is used to automatically concatenate a number of small buffer messages; this process decreases the number of packets that are sent. The algorithm remains a standard feature of TCP implementations today.
